PART 1: Democracy and why it's bad.

Mon Dec 13, 2004, 8:47 PM
It's almost the end of the year, and half my campus is still whining about John Kerry. Yeah I voted for him, but get over it your liberal zealots. And it's this that got me to start thinking...

Just how corrupt our politics are. Think about it. Politicians are very two-sided. It's to be expected, do you know why? Because we truly do run the country.

Let me explain. In a democratic society, we make the call. Our votes decide who wins. It doesn't matter if there's controversy over something, the fact is we still decideds who gets in. It's because of this that politcians' only goal is to gain our single vote. In order for them to accomplish this, they must agree with what we request.

Hm... Ask anyone in urban America if sex before marriage is ok, or even abortion. I garuntee you a large percentage will be, "Yes." 200 years ago, the answer would have been a sound, "No." Now look at the stance of the politician: 200 years ago, agreeing to abortion was unheard of (well, I guess it was hard to do it in the first place). Regardless, in the current day and age, one whole party is for it. This is because the public is for it.

Therefore, for us to complain about the degradation of morals among politics, we need to realize it is ourselves that are forcing it. They wouldn't stoop to such horrible lows lately if it wasn't for us demanding it. In 50 years... pot will be legal (won't bother me too much). In 100 years, who knows - cloning, murder, gambling - it might all be "legal" because our want for more unethical things keeps increasing.
